Today is your arrival day we welcome you upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport. Transfer to Hotel in Kathmandu or Bhaktapur. Arrival city briefing follows after Hotel check in concerning the necessary formalities on your tour and trek program. Depending upon your arrival time you may spend free time visiting nearby historic/Countryside areas or resting.In the evening sample a delicious traditional Nepali Welcome dinner in authentic Nepali Restaurant with the cultural dances.Overnight in Hotel
Half day sightseeing in Kathmandu World Heritage sights where your guide will accompany you on a tour of UNESCO enlisted Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Kapan Monastery and the unique fusion shrines of Newari architectural Hinduism and Buddhism reflecting ancient golden era of the glories. There is time to explore the city’s many places of interest with your guide or in your own or take a rest. Our Trek Leader/Guide meets you in the afternoon for the trek briefing while we finalize your VISA. Overnight in Kathmandu .
We pick you up in the morning with our Tour Officer to the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for the incomparable one hour scenic flight to Gonggar Airport, Lhasa. We fly from Kathmandu to Gonggar (3680 m). The flight itself is exciting. we fly parallel to the Himalayan giants bordering Nepal and Tibet then justover the Himalaya having opportunity to sight the Highest Mountains of the World The Everest, Kanchanjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Shishapangam and many other spectacular Mountain Peaks to Tibet.
Once you arrive at Gonggar airport, Lhasa, an easy one hour drive transfer to your Hotel in Lhasa. The remainder of the day can be spent relaxing and exploring some of the many sights in Lhasa.
On this second day morning we will take an easy visit to Jokhang Temple. This temple is the most revered shrine in all of Tibet and is constantly bustling with devout worshippers. We will also be given the opportunity to shop in Barkor, the crowded central market of Lhasa. In the afternoon we will visit is Sera Monastery, a fifteenth century sprawl of golden roofs and whitewashed walls. This well preserved monastery is located just a few miles North of Lhasa and is home to several hundred monks. Its famous debating activities are happening 3-4pm quite regularly every day, so remind our guide not to miss it.
A trip to Tibet would not be complete without experiencing the vital Potala Palace. This palace is Lhasa’s cardinal landmark and is a wonder of Eastern architecture. Your first site of this massive structure will be a magical moment remembered for years to come. It has been a palace since the fifth or sixth century and was once home to the Dalai Lama. This truly amazing day will ended with a visit to the Drepung Monastery. Once the world’s largest monastery, housing 10,000 monks, Drepung monastery lies hidden in rocky ridges just beyond the city. Surprisingly much of the building was left untouched throughout so many hundreds of years.
Today we finally begin our overland journey culminating in Kathmandu, Nepal. One of the first sites we will see while traveling along the majestic Friendship Highway is the Khamba La Pass. The breathtaking view at Khamba La allows one to see all the way to the summit of Nazin Kang Sa, turquoise coloured Yamdrok Lake. Truly an amazing view! While continuing westward we will travel over the Karo La, a high pass surrounded by stupendous glaciers. The rest of the day will be spent enjoying the many magnificent valleys and exquisite Tibetan villages we pass through. In Gyantse we visit Gyantse Dzong. This fort dates back to the fourteenth century and offers some of the most amazing views of Gyantse and the surrounding valley. Before leaving we will also visit the famed Gyantse Kumbum. This magnificent tiered structure is the largest stupa in all of Tibet. If the exquisite gold dome is not enough, this stupa is packed with Tibetan sculptures and paintings. The drive then is only 90 km, takes us to the second largest city in Tibet. Shigatse is a laid back city that provides excellent opportunity for both relaxation and exploration.
As a group we will explore the local market and the Tahilhunpo Monastery in the morning. Tahilhumpo Monastery is one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet and was able to last through the Cultural Revolution nearly unscathed. It is a great pleasure to spend some time exploring the busy cobbled lanes twisting around these ancient buildings. At night we will relax and rest in Wutse or Mansarovar Hotel A short drive will take us to the small town of Lhatse. Along the way we will visit the beautiful Sakya monastery. Towering walls surround this intricate maze of ancient monasteries and red and white striped buildings. After exploring for a while we will spend the night in Lhatse.
Today is another driving day as we head towards Saga. Take in the sights of the small dusty towns along the way! Today gives us more time to appreciate this truly ancient Tibetan culture
In the morning we will take a ferry across the Yarlung Tsangpo [Brahmaputra River]. As we continue our journey stunning Himalayan views surrounds us once again. Some of the attractions include Shishapangma and our end destination of Peiku-tso, a large majestic lake.
Another 180 kilometers is tackled as we head down the Friendship Highway. Along the way we pass through the small town of Nyalam. After Nyalam we descend down through a mossy gorge and brilliant cascading waterfalls. We drive through Zhangmu Friendship bridge cross the border and drive into Nepal side along the Bhotekoshi river to The Last Resort, nearly 14 km south east of Border. The Last Resort is the tranquil and peaceful resort where have a night before we go to Kathmandu Next Morning. Adrenaline Adventure lover can stop in this place for Bungee Jumping, Cannoning, Swinging.
We start driving to Kathmandu in the morning via Barhabishe Bazar. Kathmandu is nearly 100 km west from this scenic Araniko Highway following Bhote Koshi, Dolalghat and old cities Dhulikhel, Banepa and Panauti.
