The New Royal Trek may be short duration but physically demanding by Himalayan Trekking standard. It is easy but there are still many ups and downs. The trek begins and ends in Pokhara. We have combined this trek with thrilling Trishuli white water rafting and jungle safari in Chitwan national park to offer you the life time experiences in the multi cultural and natural wonder of Nepal.
This trek is widely known as Royal Trek which was frequently trekked by His Royal Highness the Prince Charles of United Kingdom in 1980 AD. Prince Charles got fascinated by the spectacular views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu and many more mountains and had fun trekking in the deep forests of Panchase and its tranquil environment with a lot of inhabited and visiting birds. The route lies along the high ridges of the south Phewa Lake and for the first three days is generally at altitude of around 4500 to 7000 ft (1100 to 2500 m). This trek is best done from the early October through the season until May. The Pokhara valley itself gets quite hot in the late spring but temperatures on much of this route should remain pleasant and the birdlife and spring flowers such as rhododendron and white michelia will add to the interest. The views north to Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna, and east of to Manaslu and Himalchuli are exceptionally good. The New Royal Trek may be short duration but physically demanding by Himalayan Trekking standard. The ridgeline offers fine views north to Machhapuchhre and the AnnapurnaRanges and east to the Manaslu Himal. We set up our camp near the forest. (3 hrs)
The panoramic views from this ridge are in many ways better than those obtained from the areas nearer the mountains as they offer an amazingly wide vista. The trail leads on up the ridge, leaving behind the scattered dwellings and then climbs through mixed vegetation before entering thick deciduous forest which is full of bird life, tree orchids, and in springtime abundant flowers including rhododendrons and white michelia. The trail stays on the shady north facing slopes which are moist and dark leading to prolific plant growth. The traverses on west towards Panchase Lekh(2508m) before climbing up on to the ridgeline which leads to a Chautara ( resting – place). Near this spot, on the south facing slopes, we reach a fine lunch spot in the form of a “Roman Fort” on deserted farming terraces.
The afternoon starts with a half an hour walk to a distinctive Bhanjyang (ridge crossing point). Climb away west to the President’s camp set high on hills immediately below Panchase Lekh. (5 hrs)
An early morning climb of Panchas Lekh is well worthwhile. There is a shrine near the summit and a small lake on the west side of the hill. The summit has incredible views not only north to the Himalayas but also across the board sweep of the foothills in all directions. After lunch the route follows down through the forest to Tashi’s Camp located above the village of Bhadhaure. (6 hrs)
The day begins with a descent to the village of Bhadhaure, followed by a steep climb for an hour and half to the ridgeline. Gradually contour along the ridge with panoramic views of Pokhara valley and the PhewaLake. We have the final camping lunch and free time above the Khare village, overlooking the Pokhara valley to Baglung road and the entire Naudanda (ninehills) ridge. We descend to Khare after the lunch where we have private vehicle to PokharaLake side Hotel.
